Kid Ory organized
"Original Creole Jazz Band" in San Francisco in 1919. Then,
as a black band, Ory's "Spike's Seven Pods of Pepper Orchestra"
released a first Jazz record in 1922.
The record included "Ory's Creole Trombone" and "Society Blues." Kid Ory is recognized as one of the greatest trombone player in early period. Because of medical reason, he obeyed his doctor's recommendation and lived on West Coast with dried air. After he moved to Chicago in 1925, he regularly played with various Chicago players, King Oliver, Louis Armstrong, Hot Five, Hot Seven, Jelly Roll Morton and so on. Seeing revival of Dixieland Jazz in 1940, Ory had again played with his newly organized band between 43 to his last years, 66. [translated by Mariko Ukawa] |
